Orthokeratology (Ortho-K)
Would you like to correct your nearsightedness without surgery? Ortho-K offers an alternative for those patients who are nearsighted and do not want to wear eyeglasses or contact lenses. Ortho-K is a procedure that temporarily eliminates most nearsightedness and astigmatism and enables patients to see clearly all day without the use of eyeglasses or contact lenses. It is a technique of reshaping the front of the eye (cornea) through the use of retainers that are worn while you sleep. The retainers are removed in the morning and vision is clear all day. The therapeutic effects continue for as long as you continue nightly wear.
Brevard Eye Center offers Ortho-K as an alternative to LASIK and Crystalens technology. Unlike LASIK and Crystalens, the effects are not permanent and can be reversed by simply discontinuing wearing the retainers. It is the perfect alternative for those patients who are not ready for or are unwilling to undergo eye surgery.
